EngageMedia February 2008 Update

There’s a lot going on with EngageMedia in February so we thought we should let you know about some of the more important news. We will be participating in a panel and screenings at the Sustainable Living Festival in Melbourne, there are some new improvements to the website, and the release of a new Facebook application to help you share videos from EngageMedia with your friends.

Major Update to EngageMedia.org Website

We’re very excited to announce that we have just added some big changes to the EngageMedia.org site. You might have noticed the site looks a bit different! These updates help to highlight user contributions much better along with improving the site speed and performance.
Transmission Vx Mission

Vx:mission – Amsterdam 18, 19, 20th Jan 2008

VX:mission will look at how distribution of Social Justice Video is happening using Open Sources technology. It is a chance to find out about existing distribution projects, get feedback for your own projects or ideas, find collaborators and scheme about how best to distribute your video. This is event is associated with the transmission network. For more info check transmission.cc

EngageMedia.org Screenings at Federation Square

Two programs of videos contributed to EngageMedia.org will be screened on the Big Screen at Federation Square in Melbourne between 7th and 12 of December. Federation Square is the site of many of Melbourne’s major arts centres and a regular place for concerts, screenings and events. The video programs revolve around the issues of migration, indigenous issues, globalisation and old-growth forests.
Foss Codec

FOSS Codecs for Online Video: Usability, Uptake and Development

EngageMedia is happy to announce the release of a new report into Free and Open Source Software video codecs. It is a review of available tools for the creation, playback and embedding of online video using FOSS codecs, and a look at the most pressing areas for development to enhance their adoption by social change video projects on the web.
Portuguese Version of Audio/Video Toolkit

Portuguese Version of Audio/Video Toolkit Released

The Portuguese translation of the Audio/Video NGO-in-a-box, co-produced by EngageMedia and Tactical Tech, has just been released online. The Audio/Video box is a collection of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) for multimedia production and distribution. The Audio/Video edition of NGO-in-a-Box is a toolkit that lowers the entry level for NGOs, non-profits and media activists wanting to use audio and video for social change.
Making Links

EngageMedia at Making Links

EngageMedia will be running a workshop about online video distribution at this years Making Links conference in Sydney, October 30-31. If you are interested in finding out how to compress your video, get your content online and get it out there make sure you come along.
